Call for Abstracts
The “Call for Abstracts” uses a web-based automated abstract collecting system for gathering abstracts, linked to their authors and affiliation, and presenting these abstracts “blind”, i.e., without name or affiliation to members of our EBC Executive Team functioning here as a technical-scientific advisory board. Based on that team’s comments and rankings, abstracts can be graded from “highly recommended” to “not recommended”, for inclusion into the EBC congress program. A choice will be presented to submitting authors whether to opt for an oral presentation or presenting a poster. The “Call for Abstracts” be live for 3 months, before closing and reviewing the submissions. Abstracts not submitted via the system can regrettably not be considered.
Launch of the EBC 2026 “Call for Abstracts”: Monday, 3 November 2025
Closing of the EBC 2026 “Call for Abstracts”: Monday, 2 February 2026
As in previous years, the call is segmented into a number of topical areas. We have revised and updated those topics. There are fewer topics than in previous years, but these are defined less narrowly. The topical areas for EBC 2026 are:
| 1. | Analysis and quality management methodology (raw materials, process, research) |
| 2. | Barley & cereal breeding and agronomy |
| 3. | Beer quality product (colloidal, sensory, foam) |
| 4. | Brewery and maltings management and maintenance, including advances in cleaning and sanitising |
| 5. | Brewing adjuncts & co-products, including upcycling of co-products |
| 6. | Brewing and malting technology (process, product) |
| 7. | Consumer preference studies |
| 8. | Data mining, AI supported decision-making processes in breweries and malting plants |
| 9. | Downstream processing, filtration and stabilisation (including pasteurisation, auxiliary and process aids) |
| 10. | Environmental sustainability relevant to the brewing process, including decarbonisation strategies |
| 11. | Hops and hop products, hop breeding and agronomy |
| 12. | Non-Saccharomyces fermentations, sour beers, kveik, SCOBY, and traditional indigenous beer-like beverage production |
| 13. | Packaging of beer & beverages (bottles, cans, kegs) and dispense technology |
| 14. | Technical Development (novel process, novel product implementation) |
| 15. | Yeast and fermentation (Saccharomyces-based beer production) |
We are aware that not all abstracts can be fitted neatly into a single topic, but the classification does help us with the drawing up of the sessions after the submissions have been reviewed.
The “Call for Abstracts” will be used for both posters and oral presentations. Note that there are normally a lot of abstracts submitted especially for oral presentations. An indication of preference at the point of registering an abstract (poster or oral) must be provided; if too many oral presentations have been selected, the team may encourage a certain number of them to be “converted” to posters.
We’re looking forward to your participation in the “Call for Abstracts” and are standing by should you have any further questions.
Sincerely
John Brauer
